MADISON – The co-chairs of the Joint Finance Committee announced Thursday they removed Arcadia from the committee’s budget hearing schedule.  The committee now has no hearing scheduled in the western region of the state.  Sen. Kathleen Vinehout urged citizens to attend alternative budget listening sessions scheduled in Eau Claire and La Crosse.

“Traditionally, the full Joint Finance Committee travels throughout Wisconsin to take formal testimony.  But this year, local people expressed concerns not many opportunities for public testimony existed in our area,” said Sen. Vinehout.  “I joined legislative Democrats and scheduled two ‘budget listening sessions’.  With cancellation of the Arcadia hearing, it is even more critical that Western Wisconsin citizens take the opportunity to attend the two local sessions to express their views on the Governor’s proposed budget.”

Sen. Vinehout decried the lack of attention paid to Western Wisconsin by the co-chairs of the Joint Finance Committee.

“Communities in Western Wisconsin have unique needs which must be considered in writing the budget,” said Sen. Vinehout.  “The interest of the people is better served when voices from all regions of the state are heard during decision making.”
