How does Sen. Vinehout’s alternative budget differ from Gov. Walker’s?
Shortly after Governor Walker introduced his budget I proposed an alternative budget, changing priorities but spending the same total amount.
Major differences between Scott Walker’s budget and mine included these: I restored almost all the cuts to public schools, local governments and technical colleges and veterans’ programs; I reversed his tax increases on poor families; removed the new tax breaks for corporations and the wealthy; and removed many of the Governor’s new programs.
What most people don’t know is that Walker’s budget spent $2 billion more than the previous budget. The hurt from his budget came from political choices, not because we did not have enough money.
