Senator Vinehout’s Statement on DPI’s NCLB waiver request

“State Superintendent Tony Evers moved Wisconsin one step closer to accountability for all schools. Now the Legislature must meet him halfway and pass legislation to require accountability in all taxpayer supported schools.”

“Bringing disparate groups to consensus, Superintendent Evers created a waiver request that holds schools accountable on student achievement, graduation rates, student growth and closing achievement gaps.”

“During a recent Senate Education Committee hearing some of my colleagues backed away from requiring all schools, including voucher and charter schools, to follow the accountability measures outlined in the Superintendent Evers’ waiver request.”

“Parents want to know schools are performing. Citizens need to know education dollars are wisely invested. All parties agreed to put these accountability measures in place. It’s time to make this happen.”
